Fractional Tech Lead

- Lead development, maintenance, and support of web applications in diverse technology stacks, with a focus on WordPress (Gutenberg, ACF Pro and React).
- Manage a global team of contract developers, overseeing recruitment, management, code reviews, and providing clear direction, SOPs, and oversight to ensure high-quality work.
- Ensure timely, budget-friendly, and high-quality project completion, implementing quality assurance processes and aligning with organizational standards.
- Facilitate effective communication with team members and clients, comprehensively understanding project requirements for seamless collaboration.
- Create project briefs, scope work, and allocate time, budgets and teams for client projects.
- Analyze and determine technology stacks based on client needs, providing strategies and detailed plans for optimal solutions.
- Lead core development areas: 1) full website builds, 2) ongoing initiatives, and 3) routine maintenance & support.
- Collaborate with other departments to align technical developments with organizational goals and customer needs.
- Maintain an active role in coding and developing solutions for front-end and back-end frameworks. Ensure a focus on maintaining budgets and costs on all development projects.
- Handle version control (Git) and continuous integration deployments between development, staging, and production environments.
- Be well informed on server administration, including but not limited to DNS, SSL, CDN, web hosting, etc.
- Optimize website performance, security, and other crucial aspects for smooth user experiences and reduced technical debt.
- Ensure clean, scalable code and sustainable, scalable, and maintainable codebase and architectural decisions.
- Exhibit adaptability in a remote, flexible working environment, proactively aligning with the schedules of overseas team members as needed to ensure optimal collaboration and productivity.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with a track record of successfully managing and leading contract and overseas development teams, including recruitment and performance management.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to align technology initiatives with business goals.
- Proven experience in full stack development, with expertise in WordPress (Gutenberg, ACF Pro), and some experience in React.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment.
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality web applications within established timelines and budgets.
- Experience working in a contract or fractional leadership role
- Experience leading a remote team of developers
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred, but not required.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in full-stack development.
- Expert in WordPress development
- Highly proficient in HTML5, CSS3, SASS, JavaScript, NodeJS, jQuery, NPM, Webpack, Gulp, Bootstrap 4, PHP, React, GIT, MySQL database systems and API paradigms is required along with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies
- Experience with CI pipelines and version control systems such as Git
- Ability to creating and manage custom WordPress themes and plugins is required
- Expert with Advanced Custom Fields Plugin
- Able to create Gutenberg blocks with React
- Ability to work with REST APIs, Ajax and JSON
- Some experience in React, Next.js, GraphQL, and other emerging technologies
- E-Commerce (Shopify & WooCommerce) a plus
- Ability to lead teams and personally develop polished responsive websites with a mobile-first approach based on Figma prototypes
- Ability to create custom javascript animations, transitions, and micro interactions
- Strong computer science fundamentals (Object Oriented Programming)
- Well informed on server administration, including but not limited to DNS, SSL, CDN, web hosting, etc.
- A track record of writing and overseeing teams to write code that is clean, understandable, cross browser and cross device compatible
- Previous experience in managing and leading contract and remote development teams is required.

- The hourly range for this position is $65 – $95 per hour.
- Fractional independent contractor with monthly compensation
- 100% remote (based in a North American time zone).
