Coming from the agency world, we have worked on countless website design projects ranging from small business websites to large scale ecommerce web applications handling $1 million plus in yearly sales. Through these experiences, we have figured out what works best in the process and pricing of custom website design. We have experienced the pain points, the common questions and frustrations associated with website design and have addressed them through our simple process and straightforward web design pricing.

How much does a website cost?

The cost of a custom website design can range significantly based on the amount of content and functionality required. Typically, custom website designs start in the range of $3,000-$6,000 for small businesses and go up from there based on the amount of functionality and content required. For example, building shopping cart ecommerce functionality into a website can add a lot of development time and therefore adds to the overall website price.

How are websites priced?

At Blennd Media, we like to be straightforward and honest about our pricing before a project kicks off, so as a client you know what you will ultimately pay when your website is complete. Blennd spends the time to build websites the right way. We create custom mobile responsive website designs and use technical search engine friendly best practices. Our custom website designs are unique for each and every business we work with (we don’t use templates). Just like in any business, doing things the right way takes time – and time is money, as the saying goes. That is why we have a project minimum in place – it’s the minimum cost and time required to build your website right!

Here is a basic overview of our general web design pricing structures:

Small Business and Local Business Websites:

Price Range: $3,000-$6,000

Small business websites are the most basic form of websites. We typically refer to them as, ‘Brochure’ or ‘Business Card’ websites. They are typically fairly small in size and range from 5-10 pages of content. They usually don’t include much custom functionality aside from a contact or request a quote form. Their main purpose is to create an online presence for a small business like an ice cream shop to help drive customers into the store. These websites typically range in price from $3,000 – $6,000 and include custom website design and wordpress development.

Enterprise and Corporate Websites:

Price Range: $6,000-$15,000

Enterprise and corporate websites are the next step up from a small business website. These websites are larger in size and include more pages of content and custom functionalities such as robust resource centers, e-newsletter and 3rd party integrations (like mailchimp, salesforce, hubspot, etc), product or white paper downloads, video integrations, social feeds and more. These more robust enterprise level mobile responsive websites typically range in price from $6,000-$15,000.

Ecommerce Websites:

Price Range: $15,000 – $250,000+

Aside from mobile or desktop apps, ecommerce websites are typically the most complex to design and build and therefore require much more investment to build properly. They require set up of a merchant account, credit card processing, account / user creation and management, order processing and more. Many people outside of the web development community really don’t understand everything that is involved in a custom ecommerce site until they need one. Quality ecommerce website designs typically start at $15,000 and go up in price from there depending on the functionalities required, product variables and amount of products to be sold.

We hope you’ve found this article helpful and have gained a better understanding of how much a website costs, and more importantly, why they cost what they do. The bottom line is that website design projects are billed hourly, so the larger and more complex a website is, more hours that need to go into it and therefore more it will cost. At Blennd Media, we create custom websites for each client, so we start with a quick call to define the basics of what type of website you are looking for in order for us to provide you with an accurate and straightforward estimate.
